Things You Should Know About Us
We are fanatical about security. There was a time when security was a subdivision of information technology, one of many top level issues to be considered. That time is long gone. We firmly believe that information technology and information security are one and the same. If it doesn't provide whatever level of security is required - it's useless.
We love what we do. We do what we do first and foremost because it inspires us. We work for ourselves because we were disappointed in the approach and level of commitment to technology at other places we had worked.
SpecialAI is a great place to work. Let's face it, we spend a god-awful amount of time working. We recognize that the vast majority of our life is spent in the company of our co-workers. So we do our best to make this a fun place to be. This leads to general balance and a thriving sense of humor, both of which help us do our jobs better.
We are driven to succeed. Sure we love the technology and can't really think of anything else we would want to do professionally, but that doesn't make us software hippies. We are driven to build success for ourselves and that starts and ends with helping our clients succeed.
We're damned good. Yeah, it sounds arrogant; but do you really want people working for you that lack the confidence to be better than their competition? We don't claim to be the smartest people on earth, or the most gifted. But we are constantly striving to be just those things and that hunger makes us better than most. We have some dangerous minds assembled with the sole pursuit of making the business of technology cooler, more profitable and less of a pain in the ass.
We have a problem with authority. We are constantly challenging the status quo and are loathe to believe that something 'has to be' just because someone says so. "Technology is just plain complicated and you should accept that it makes things as difficult as it does." No Way Jose. It's only through consistently challenging the dominant paradigm and the entrenched authority of the prevalent mindset that true innovation can be achieved.
We are appalled at the level of frustration and general tolerance for ineptitude and poor performance that the business community has been conditioned to accept from it's technology and the vendors who provide it. The Pavlovian nature with which the business community regularly tolerates inefficiency and error from critical technology is astounding. People seem to think that poor support and reoccurring system malfunctions are 'just the way it is'. It may be 'just the way it is' but it certainly isn't the way it needs to be. There is a better way.
We understand how difficult growing a business can be. We know about the difficult decisions involved in ensuring survival and growth. Having started ourselves at perhaps the worst time possible for a NYC technology start up (2000) we've had to make many difficult decisions along the way. We have survived, though at times it seemed only by sheer will and tenacity. Our experience has taught to respect that fact that there are very few constant "right answers" there are really only answers that are right for each unique set of circumstance. We always strive to gain a deep understanding of the intricacies and realities of our client's business so that we can help them make the decisions that directly reflect their unique needs.
